Relatives of foreign nationals from certain countries are not required to obtain a Temporary Resident’s Certificate in order to come to France.

  • Nationals of the European Economic Area
    Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and UK.
  • Nationals of the following countries
    Andorra, Monaco and Switzerland.
  • Foreign nationals holding:
    - a "Schengen Agreement" travel visa valid for at least one year for multiple entries,
    - a visa with the words "application for resident’s permit to be made on arrival in France",
    - a visa marked "relative of a French national".
  • Also exempt are:
    - foreign nationals joining their foreign spouse, who is duly authorised to reside in France, to attend a family gathering,
    - minor children joining their father or mother, who is duly authorised to reside in France, to attend a family gathering,
    - dependent foreign children of a French parent who are under the age of 21,
    - the parents or grandparents of a French national or their spouse, if they are dependants
    - foreign parents with even partial parental authority over a French child residing in France,
    - foreign nationals who have been granted exemption,
    - officials of  international organisations of which France is a member, in possession of a travel order,
    - officials of foreign public services in possession of a travel order and members of parliamentary assemblies of foreign states,
    - members of diplomatic missions and their families coming from abroad to take up office in France,
    - the crews of ships or aircraft when they are travelling.
  • As are: 
    - foreign nationals wishing to stay in France for humanitarian or cultural reasons,  
    - foreign nationals travelling to France in a medical emergency,
    - foreign nationals travelling to France to attend the funeral of a relative.
